Pet Friendly Services of Indiana has compiled a list of affordable spay-neuter services available in Indiana.
“People want to do the right thing. Now they have a clear place to start,” Cheri Storms, executive director of Pet Friendly Services of Indiana, said in a statement announcing the new directory.
The free resource directory of low-cost clinics, transport programs and voucher programs lists 47 sites, many in rural counties, and one mobile clinic that serves 38 counties.
Marion County has 11 places listed in the directory. Options in Ohio, Kentucky and Illinois close to the Indiana border are also included.
“Many pet owners want to get their pets fixed but don’t know how to access services. Some Indiana counties are ‘vet deserts’ without a single veterinary clinic,” Storms said in the statement.
In Lawrence County, White River Humane Society’s focus on reducing the number of animals euthanized by promoting spaying and neutering has made an impact. A decade ago, the euthanasia rate for cats was 51% and for dogs, 44%. Now, 96% of animals who go through the shelter find homes.
